Loxxess has been awarded the 2020 European Logistics Award
11. November 2020
After becoming a finalist in the 2019 German Logistics award, Loxxess AG has now won this year's European Logistics Award, which is awarded by the European Logistics Association (ELA). The main focus of the Loxxess application was our “SMILE” logistics concept, which Loxxess has developed as a sustainable solution for successfully overcoming the logistical challenges associated with e-commerce. The award ceremony was held on November 10, 2020 as part of a digital conference.
The logistics and fulfillment service provider Loxxess AG, from Unterföhring, has been awarded the 2020 European Logistics Award by the European Logistics Association (ELA). Loxxess has also achieved significant success at the international level after positioning itself as a finalist for the 2019 German Logistics Prize. Loxxess prevailed against five other European finalists to satisfy the jury at the live-streamed award ceremony held on November 10, 2020.
The focus of the application that Loxxess submitted for the ELA Award was our “SMILE – Smart and Innovative – logistics for e-commerce” logistics concept: Which has enabled Loxxess to develop a sustainable and pioneering solution for dealing with the complexity and the growth management of the logistics involved in exponentially growing e-commerce projects. This logistics concept was established in 2019 as part of the build-up of the online sales channel of a well-known German drugstore company, which Loxxess has been working with at the multi-user campus in Bor near the German/Czech border since 2017.
The integrative interaction of human, artificial intelligence (AI) and automation solution components used in contractual logistics ensure that “SMILE” represents an innovative approach to developing and implementing the specific solution concepts used in contractual logistics.
This concept enabled the Loxxess project team to successfully respond to the challenges of dynamic volume growth combined with exceptionally complex and heterogeneous product ranges and structures.
Agility and flexibility as well as optimizing the processing times were the top priorities when it came to finding solutions, all without reducing the customizing and quality needed to meet the customer requirements.
The warehouse optimization software from Heureka Business Solutions played a key role here. The software, which is based on real-time data, enables optimization based on algorithmic processes to be implemented. Setting up a “digital twin” enables incoming orders to be assembled through simulations that create an optimum order picking tour. This saves time and effort.
In the warehouse topology and warehouse planning sectors, articles are arranged using predictive methods so that the picking density is optimized and ergonomic aspects are also taken into consideration.
However, the hub of the interaction between the warehouse optimization software and the warehouse management system is real-time monitoring and “exception management”. The app that was especially developed for this solution makes it possible to counteract any deviations. It coverts conventional “ex-post” control into real-time control that significantly improves efficiency, quality and service.
“We are particularly pleased to be able to celebrate another important success with SMILE as it is now running on an international level”, commented Dr Claus-Peter Amberger, CEO of Loxxess AG. “Online trading, which has been booming for years, also involves various logistical challenges and they necessitate the need for novel concepts. SMILE has enabled us to implement a successful approach that not only takes into consideration the complexity of online trading, but also ensures customer and employee satisfaction”.
Christina Thurner, a member of Loxxess’ management board, said: “Innovation has long been one of the main areas of activity at Loxxess, and is now an integral part of our corporate DNA. Once again this high award confirms our strategy of developing new solutions that produce greater efficiency and are able to reflect the rapid volume growth of our e-commerce customers. At the same time we would like to congratulate all of the other finalists“.
