The Dawn of a New Era

The history of LOXXESS began in 1999 with the acquisition of Material Service Depot Gesellschaft (MDSG), a former logistics service provider for the Federal Ministry of Defense. MDSG had several locations, approximately 200 employees, and a solid logistical foundation. What was decisive, however, was the potential to develop it into a modern and forward-looking company.

With this acquisition, Peter Amberger laid the foundation for a company that focused early on entrepreneurial initiative, streamlined decision-making, and continued growth. The central administration was established at Lake Tegernsee, and the company secured its first customers, such as VW, early on. This marked the beginning of the development of an independent company with a new profile and a new name.

How the Name LOXXESS Has Its Roots in Success

The Name

The name LOXXESS was coined in the late 1990s during a period of strategic realignment. The goal was to create a new corporate brand that would symbolize a new beginning toward an independent future and deliberately distinguish itself from earlier brands such as Amberger and Log Sped.

The Double-X

Peter Amberger, Sigi Übelacker, and Charles Lewis came up with a name that bridges the past and the future. “LOXXESS” combines “Logistics” and “Success”; the double “X” stands for IT, and the double “S” stands for “Security” and “Success.”

The Meaning

By choosing the AG legal form, LOXXESS embraced a widespread trend of the early 2000s. From the very beginning, the name was intended to convey what LOXXESS stands for: logistics expertise, entrepreneurial thinking, and a forward-looking approach.

The Dawn of the 2000s

Another milestone followed as early as 2000 with the founding of LOXXESS Pharma GmbH. At the same time, the partnership with Burton Snowboards—which continues to this day—began. The construction of the new European central warehouse in Aurach in 2001 laid the foundation for further growth.

In 2002, a distribution center for Procter & Gamble was built in Kirn, followed in 2004 by the new facility in Ebermannsdorf. In the same year, Dr. Claus-Peter Amberger joined the executive board. With the Münster location, the mail-order and e-commerce division was also established. Step by step, LOXXESS expanded into new industries and broadened its range of services.

Internationalization and Leadership by the Next Generation

Between 2005 and 2007, LOXXESS evolved into a logistics service provider operating throughout Europe. The network was significantly expanded with the founding of LOXXESS Warsaw, the construction of a new facility in Bor, Czech Republic, and the acquisitions of ABX Contract Logistics and Premus Logistik. At the same time, specialized locations such as Haiming were established for Wacker.

Starting in 2008, new business areas were established, the call center in Berlin was opened, and the Aurach and Bor locations were expanded. In 2009, Peter Amberger handed over operational responsibility to his son, Claus-Peter Amberger, and joined the supervisory board.

In 2011, Christina Thurner joined the executive team, marking the arrival of the next generation. Together, they led LOXXESS into a phase of international expansion and professionalization.

Modern Logistics Solutions and Awards

In 2013, the new logistics center in Berlin began operations. In the years that followed, LOXXESS continued to expand its locations and developed new solutions for the growing e-commerce market. These included, among other things, the expansion of the Bor location as well as partnerships with REWE Digital, dm-drogerie markt, and Vodafone.

Warsaw also gained in importance and developed into a major fulfillment hub for Central and Eastern Europe.

A major milestone came in 2020 with the win of the European Logistics Award for the “SMILE” concept. In collaboration with dm-drogerie markt, a solution was developed that integrates employees, automation, artificial intelligence, and algorithmic control processes into a single comprehensive system. Many of the approaches developed during this process continue to shape LOXXESS’s processes to this day.

Healthcare Expertise and European Presence

LOXXESS continued to expand its activities in the healthcare sector. With the founding of Narcotic Solutions Logistik GmbH & Co. KG, a joint venture for specialized narcotics and pharmaceutical logistics was established in partnership with MSK Pharma Logistik at the Meerbusch location. In addition, another pharmaceutical facility was commissioned in Hamburg in 2026.

Together with its locations in Germany, Poland, and the Czech Republic, LOXXESS is thereby strengthening its presence in Europe and further expanding its expertise in
sophisticated healthcare and logistics solutions. Today, LOXXESS combines the values of a family-owned business with an international focus and a long-term entrepreneurial mindset.

A Family-Owned Company with a New Management Perspective

With the goal of positioning LOXXESS for further growth and increasing internationalization, a new phase of corporate development began in 2023. For the first time, the company’s operational management was placed in external hands, and the management structures were expanded.

At the same time, the continuity of the family-owned company was preserved. The owner family continued to actively support the strategic development.

In this way, LOXXESS set the course to continue the growth trajectory of recent years while preserving its character as a family-owned business.
