The logistics and fulfillment service provider LOXXESS AG, Unterföhring awarded the “Logistics Game Changer. Powered by LOXXESS!” award to the project Bcon as part of the 11th Innovation World Cup® The company CapLab’s solution is based on an innovative controller for hands-free picking in the logistics sector. Bcon was awarded with the special logistics award at StartupCon, Germany’s largest start-up trade fair, on October 30, 2019 in Cologne.

In July 2019, LOXXESS presented the “Logistics Game Changer Award” to promote innovative logistics solutions. National and international start-ups were required to submit advanced logistics applications with the potential to permanently shape the future of the sector.

After the deadline for applications at the end of September 2019, the jury of experts, which in addition to Christina Thurner (a member of the executive management at LOXXESS), Patrick Mense (also a member of the executive management at LOXXESS) and Karina Slowinski (head of Quality Management and Lean Management at LOXXESS) also included representatives from Würth Elektronik and High-Tech Gründerfonds, nominated the seven finalists for the special logistics award. The range of solutions provided a mirror image of the current top industry trends. The most promising applications and processes accordingly came from the sectors of automation, software and artificial intelligence.

“The demand for and potential of innovative developments isn’t nearly as high in any other economic sector as it is in the logistics sector. By creating the ‘Logistics Game Changer Award,’ we at LOXXESS wanted to promote innovation where it begins, namely in the hands of young, promising companies,” says Christina Thurner. “Because: Only if we actively promote innovation can we continue to develop and successfully meet the future challenges and opportunities in the logistics sector.”

The finalists took 1st, 2nd and 3rd place on the evening of the award ceremony. “The decision on the winning project was very difficult for the jury. All three final finalists presented exciting solutions. Ultimately though it was Bcon that was able to meet the jury’s high requirements,” says Christina Thurner. “Innovation is not an end in and of itself, but rather has to serve the customer and above all employee satisfaction. Bcon convinced us of this in this respect in particular.

The solution Nuada, a 250 gram exoskeleton for easily transporting up to 40 kg loads took second place. The project identplus, a laser-based orientation system for driverless navigation in the warehouse, took third place.

Bcon developer CapLab can be doubly pleased: As the award winner, the company can look forward to a cash prize of EUR 10,000 as well as the opportunity to test and continue to develop Bcon together with LOXXESS experts at one of the company locations.
