Fulfillment: Loxxess will be expanding its capacities

14. April 2021

Loxxess, the logistics and fulfillment service provider, is to further expand its fulfillment capacities by expanding its Aurach site with an additional 6,000 m2 of logistics space. This expansion will enable Loxxess to provide temperature-controlled storage zones, which is Loxxess' response to the increasing demands from the food and beverage sectors. Construction will start in autumn 2021 and completion is planned for the start of 2022.

Loxxess AG, of Tegernsee, the logistics and fulfillment service provider, will soon be expanding its fulfillment capacities. Expanding the Aurach fulfillment center in Bavaria is the family-owned company’s response to the continued growth in online retailing. This expansion will create an additional 6,000 m2 of modern storage and logistics areas caused by the increasing demand from the food and beverage sectors and the expansion will enable us to provide precise temperature-controlled storage between 6° and 28°C. Six to eight new gates will be built for truck docking and side unloading will be also possible. Loxxess will be investing a total of around 5 million euros in this new expansion and the logistics service provider has completed all of the planning by itself.

“E-commerce has now been booming for years and the coronavirus pandemic has also fueled this growth. Online retailing in Germany set a new record in 2020 with total revenues of over 83 billion euros. New target groups were also acquired and the product ranges were expanded to include products for everyday needs. We are taking this development into account by expanding our capacities at our Aurach fulfillment center,” said Dr Claus-Peter Amberger, the CEO of Loxxess AG. “By establishing special temperature-controlled zones we are creating the conditions for taking over increasingly important fulfillment services from the food sector.”

Loxxess also took the sustainability aspect into consideration when they designed the new areas. In addition to the ecological design, a combined heat and power plant will ensure sustainable energy supplies with reduced emissions. All of the measures are already part of the environmental management system established and implemented at the facility, which has also been certified according to the ISO 14001 standard for the last 5 years. LOXXESS is therefore continuing its sustainability strategy, which was recently underscored by it joining the GS1 Germany “Lean and Green” initiative.

The Loxxess facility in Aurach has a total storage area of around 45,000 m2 and it is centrally located inbetween the Nuremberg, Stuttgart and Würzburg economic regions. The facility has excellent east / west and north / south connections due to its close proximity to the A6 and A7 German freeways. Loxxess works with a total of seven different industries at the logistics center and it also provides value-added services in addition to fulfillment services for the contract and transport logistics sectors. In addition to return shipment management, the family-owned company also handles debtor, order and risk management as well as returns processing and various other customer care services.

The family-owned company expects the expansion to be completed by the start of 2022, with early access being possible by the end of 2021. Construction will start during fall 2021.
